Conical compression springs are used when axial clearance is limited. In tapered compression springs, the windings collapse such that the block height is approximately equal to twice the wire thickness. With conical springs, the ratio of force to compression is increasing (progressive) because they have a variable diameter. For calculating conical compression springs, please refer to DIN 2089-1 (EN 13906-1) and DIN 2095-2.

Standard conical compression springs are available in both spring steel and stainless steel AISI 302. Standard tapered compression springs are available from 0.3 mm to 3 mm and are laid and not ground. The winding direction is to the right.
